This time next week, you’re probably going to be opening up presents with your family. Unfortunately, this may not be the case for thousands of children in Washington County. Why? They live below the poverty line. Their parents struggle to make ends meet. Christmas is a luxury they can’t afford. But you can help change this. St George Coins for Kids needs volunteers right now to help shop for, wrap up and deliver toys to needy girls and boys by week’s end. Are you up for this task?
St George Coins for Kids
Local country station KONY 99.9 partners up with St George Coins for Kids to help underprivileged children around Washington County experience a Christmas they deserve. Last year, they were able to share some Christmas joy with almost 1400 children. This year, it could be even more. Since they utilize every cent raised for making these kids’ Christmas merry and bright, they rely on the generosity of volunteers to get the job done.
How Can You Help St George Coins for Kids?
Today, St George Coins for Kids volunteers begin setting up all the donations they’ve received so far by sorting toys into different age groups. However, they still need volunteers to help with shopping tomorrow, wrapping on Wednesday, and delivering on Thursday. Like to shop? Pre-shopping starts at 8 am on Tuesday, the 19th, at the Dixie Center (1835 S Convention Center Dr). Actual shopping happens later on in the day (5 pm) at the Bloomington Walmart. Bring your kids with you to help you pick out presents for the kids in need. Every volunteer shopper receives a clipboard with the name of a family and what they requested on it. On Wednesday, St George Coins for Kids needs help wrapping everything up for Thursday’s delivery. Wrapping begins at 8 am and continues until every last present is wrapped. If you volunteer for wrapping duty, please bring a couple of rolls of wrapping paper with you. While scissors and tape will be provided, they won’t turn down any donations of those you bring as well.
Interested in helping out? All you have to do is show up at the Dixie Center at 8 am on Tuesday or Wednesday. No sign-up required. However, if you’d like to be Santa’s helper and deliver presents on Thursday, you’ll need to contact Hal at (435) 632-0439. He needs to be able to coordinate all deliveries from 4 pm to 9 pm that day.
With just six shopping days until Christmas Day, we’re all feeling the crunch. How better to show your kids what the Christmas spirit is all about than by having them help other less fortunate children at the St George Coins for Kids event? Merry Christmas everybody!
