While official estimates are hard to come by, some data suggests that as many as 47 million birdwatchers (aka “birders”) live in the United States alone. Of those, approximately 18 million go beyond their backyard to actively search out our fine feathered friends in their natural habitat. Mild winters make St George the perfect place to view up to 375 different species. That’s why hundreds of birders will be descending upon our fair city for the St George Winter Bird Festival 2018.

St George Winter Bird Festival 2018
If you’re one of the thousands of people that made it to the 2017 Ultimate Outdoor Expo in late December, then the St George Winter Bird Festival 2018 may be right up your alley. Put what you learned and gathered from the expo to work for you. Learn more about local birds of prey, the types of birds who winter in St George, how to build a birdhouse, and more from one of several workshops available during the festival.
In addition to the workshops, the festival offers 16 different field trips throughout the three-day event. Bring your camera for the Lytle Photography field trip headed by Lynn Chamberlain, a renowned wildlife photographer. Follow Lucy Ormond around Zion National Park in search of pygmy owls and sapsuckers. For the bike enthusiasts, sign up for the Virgin River tour, five miles of rural bicycling to look for several different local bird species. Then, there’s the owl prowl, Beryl raptors, Lytle Ranch, and Gunlock Reservoir trips, just to name a few. To sign up for any of these field trips, visit the festival’s schedule of events. Scroll down to find the trips you’re most interested in. Then, click the “register” button located to the right. Spots are limited. So, sign up early so you don’t miss out.
